FALL FASHION WEEK 2009: Temperely London

After showing her collection in London last season, Alice Temperley is back in NYC presenting her British-orient themed collection. You may recall I went to Temperley’s fall 2008 fashion show and instantly fell in love with her edgy approach to designer attire. Temperely’s fall 2009 collection is BY FAR MY FAVORITE show of the season..I just love everything about this mysterious eclectic fashion forward collection. Check out the making of Temperely’s fall collection here.

MY FALL FASHION 'WEEK' EXPERIENCE

As most you know, I spent the last two days in NYC covering Fall Fashion Week for Splash Magazine. The tents at Bryant Park are just that..a combination of three white tents (Salon,Tent & the Promenade) connected to one large white tent. I received three designer invitations (shows are by invitation only) from Malan Breton, Temperley London and Rebecca Taylor. I actually made it inside Malan and Temperley’s show, Rebecca Taylor reached capacity after too many uninvited VIP’s showed up, so about 50 of us, including myself were turned away by Taylor's PR staff (********). Anyhow, I would say fashion week was a unique experience filled with tons of fashionable people and wannabees. If you ever have the chance to attend -go – preferably with VIP status – otherwise be prepared to wait-wait-wait in line!
Oh, one of the highlights of my trip was meeting actress Angie Harmon (see camera phone pic). Angie was wearing a purple shift dress w/belt, black tights and YSL black platforms and was even MORE beautiful in person – trust me!

Temperley London’s show was held at 7pm on Wednesday in the 'Tent' at Bryant Park (well the show started an hour late). The tent was packed with several hundred of fashions finest. I spotted actress Joy Bryant and Julie Stiles in the front row.The runway was set in dark grey metallics and disc ball shiny drapes. As the DJ spun disco tunes out walks the first model wearing stretch leather and a military cap. M.A.C styled all models using a combination of light rose and pale coffee coloured lipsticks. Temperley’s inspiration for her Fall ’08 collection was early 1900’s in the style of Mata Hari, but let’s call it biker-chic. Below is a sample, as Temperley showed about 40 looks in total. This show was high fashion and fabulous!

Malan Breton's show was held in the 'Salon' at 9am on Wednesday, a smaller venue then the Tent. Malan's inspiration was Catherine Deneuve in her early career..think American girl in Paris. However, in person and in print the designs look a bit 80's. right?? I must say, I wasn’t overly impressed with Malan’s collection. However, Malan was adorable in person; shy and humble just like when he appeared on Project Runway.

TEMPERLEY LONDON Spring ‘08

Another fashion show that I will attend next week is London Temperley. Again, I like the fact that this designer did not use overly bright colors in her spring line, but I think I prefer Rebecca Taylor’s romantic view point. What do you think? Will be interesting to see what they have in mind for the fall!
